Roger Cartwright, a 76-year-old penile cancer survivor, has opened up about receiving a personal letter from King Charles. Cartwright, who has fought to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding his form of cancer since his diagnosis in 2012, was deeply touched by the King's response.
Cartwright had initially written a note to the King, expressing his support for the monarch and Princess Catherine after news of their involvement in raising cancer awareness surfaced. “I was glad the King spoke out, as his words would resonate far more than anything I could do,” he said.
To his surprise, Cartwright received a personalized reply from Buckingham Palace, acknowledging his illness and commending his efforts to spread awareness. “It wasn’t a standard response. The letter was addressed to Lieutenant Commander, and the King had noted my positive outlook and my work to educate others about cancer symptoms. It was incredibly moving,” Cartwright shared.
He believes the King's openness will have a significant impact, encouraging others to seek medical attention for personal health concerns. "If what the King and Princess Kate are doing helps even one person overcome their reluctance to get checked, then it's all worthwhile," Cartwright added.
