Prince William recently made headlines by breaking yet another royal tradition during a key event held in honour of French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the United Kingdom.
At the state banquet hosted for the French leader, the Prince of Wales chose to forego the traditional Windsor uniform, opting instead for a classic white tie ensemble. His decision marked a departure from the royal navy tailcoat typically worn by senior royals, including King Charles.
According to Mail Online, Prince William's choice of attire was deliberate, reflecting his increasingly modern approach to royal duties.
A palace insider explained, “His Royal Highness dressed appropriately, but does not need to match his father on all occasions.”
"It's no secret that William does not feel hidebound by tradition. He respects tradition but does not believe we always have to follow it,” the source added.
This move aligns with the Prince’s broader vision of a more contemporary monarchy. He has previously expressed a desire to modernise royal practices and make the institution more streamlined and relatable.
As reported by GB News, Prince William has been quietly considering how to move the monarchy forward. Sources close to the future King say he intends to review the internal workings of Buckingham Palace and modernise outdated systems that have remained unchanged for decades.
“When the moment comes, he’ll want to do it his way—genuinely, not just following a script,” a friend of the Prince told The Times.
