The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made a notable public appearance
as the Royal Family marked what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th
birthday, a day filled with remembrance and reflection at Buckingham
Palace.
Joined in spirit with King Charles III and other senior
royals, Princess Kate’s presence was seen as a moment of unity and continuity
for the monarchy. The engagement brought together representatives of the late
Queen’s charities and patronages, as well as centenarians celebrating their
own milestone birthdays.
Kate chose a soft lilac Emilia Wickstead
midi dress for the occasion—an intentional nod to Queen Elizabeth II, who was
known for favouring the same shade. The look was widely interpreted as a
subtle tribute, reflecting the Princess of Wales’s respect for the late
monarch’s legacy.
She further completed her outfit with meaningful
pieces from the Royal Collection, including the Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings
and a three-strand pearl necklace previously worn at a 2022 Commonwealth
reception. Together, the accessories reinforced her longstanding connection to
the late Queen’s style and symbolism.
Kensington Palace also
released a statement highlighting the significance of the Buckingham Palace
reception, noting that it brought together individuals and organisations
closely associated with Queen Elizabeth II’s life and work.
Kate’s relationship with the late Queen has often been described as warm and formative. In earlier interviews, she recalled thoughtful personal gestures during family gatherings, including preparing homemade gifts that were later seen on the Queen’s table. Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in 2022, Prince William has also spoken about the influence she had on both him and Catherine over many years.
The Princess of Wales’s appearance on the centenary occasion was her first
public engagement since Easter Sunday. While she and Prince William were not
present at a separate senior royal gathering at the British Museum, their
participation in commemorative coverage was included in official family
photographs released by King Charles’s office.
The image, shared on
Instagram, showed King Charles and Queen Camilla alongside senior members of
the Royal Family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, underscoring a
moment of remembrance dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II’s enduring legacy.
